In Crystal's words

I was one of the kids who needed someone to believe in me.

I grew up without much money or consistent access to music lessons. I moved between homeschooling and public school and learned music however I could, sometimes teaching myself from worn books and even drawing a piano keyboard on paper when I didn't have one in front of me.

Along the way, I met teachers who saw potential in me before I fully knew how to see it in myself.

Their encouragement changed the way I approached school, creativity, and my future. I became my high school's valedictorian and went on to build a career as a recording artist, performer, actress, and creator.

Why bring this to students

High school is where students quietly decide what they're capable of.

Some already know what they love. Some are terrified they aren't good enough at it. Some struggle academically and assume that means they aren't intelligent. Some come from circumstances where pursuing something creative feels unrealistic. And some simply haven't had anyone take their interests seriously yet.

One teacher's encouragement can change the way a student sees their future.

This experience reinforces something great educators already help students understand: your circumstances matter, but they don't have to define your possibilities.

More than a concert

What students get.

Students get the energy of a live performance, and the music opens a larger conversation about creativity, setbacks, possibility, and taking their own potential seriously.
